Bible Study - Daniel 9:1-19 - Daniel’s Prayer

January 28th, 2008 · No Comments

On Monday last week (the 21st) I lead my first Bible study at Cahir Presbyterian Church. I had only lead one Bible study previously, while I was doing missionary work over the summer and for that one I read notes I had emailed to myself off my phone. For this latest Bible study I made structural observations of Daniel 9:1-19, read commentaries, listed discussion topics and potential questions. I even bought chocolate chip cookies.

Leading the study was very different to preaching and I have to say I think I’m better at preaching but still I think it went well. I have a review form for Peter to fill out for my MAP folder but I haven’t given it to him yet. There’s a bit more “winging it” involved in leading Bible studies, which are essentially just chats. No matter how prepared I was I still found myself having to think on my feet, which is not something I’m that good at when it comes to talking with people I’m not that close too. I think the practice will do me good though and will even benefit my preaching so I can more easily stray away from my sermon script and allow me to speak more naturally.
